Welcome to the Piedmont Hiking & Outing Club

The Piedmont Hiking and Outing Club is an all volunteer group founded in 1982. It is a club for people who enjoy physical activities, the outdoors, social activities, and group camaraderie. We have approximately 250 members that include individuals, couples and families. Members come from the Piedmont area of North Carolina, including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Thomasville, Burlington and surrounding communities. We have members from Chapel Hill to Asheville, from Charlotte to Reidsville, and all points in-between.

The hikes and outings we do are organized and led by the members. On any given weekend, our members take to the hiking trails of the Piedmont area, the mountains and lakes of North Carolina, the state parks of Virginia, and beyond. Outings are published in our newsletter, The Trailmarker; they offer a wide variety of choices for all levels of physical fitness. Outings have ranged from a 2-mile walk around the Greensboro Watershed Trails to a week in Hawaii.

If there is something missing from the club, organize it and lead it! Do you want to rock climb? Winter backpack? Have a gourmet food hike? If you plan it, we'll make an outing out of it and publish it in the Trailmarker! And if this is a new thing for you, remember that our club has many members who will be willing to help you with your first outing; just let someone know.

The club helps maintain two trails in the Greensboro Watershed Trail sytem. The 3.6 mile Nat Greene Trail and the 2.9 mile Piedmont Trail. We do maintenance a couple of times per year and encourage everyone to help out!

All of our social events are run by members. As the saying goes, "many hands make light work." Offer to help out and make it more fun for everyone.
